Saturday was May Day, and we went to the festival for an hour in the morning. Things were just getting rolling. There were many things cultural relating to Nice and Nissart (language of Nice), but also fun things for kids:

Below was a stage for performances. In the background you can just see the colored ribbons of the tall Maypole.

This group was playing Gourdes. Like real gourdes, from a garden. Wacky. They sounded like kazoos. Some of the gourdes were turned into little hand drums, like the lady on the far left.

It was a sunny morning. We had got up very early to see Thomas' cousin Emilie off on the ferry to Corsica. She and her BF had driven from Calvinet the night before.
