Last Days in Nice

What better way to spend your last morning on the French Riviera than...at the beach and have an impromptu meet-up with friends....
Thomas helps Estelle & Eva make a sand castle that withstands the light waves....

Goodbye for now, Villefranche....

We were there for 2 hours and these sentinels rarely left their post along the castle walls....
Thursday was Estelle's last day at her after-school play program.  Here she is with buddy Elias.  They won't be in the same school next year.  :-(

Friday morning: last day of kindergarten.   Suddenly I felt - old?  sad?  nostalgic?

This is Estelle's band of buddies - they'll get split up next year between 2 different schools.  Kind of a bummer.  Some will be with her for sure though at least.
Friday afternoon, Basile (and Fransiska) surprised us with a visit.  Here's Basile yanking away on Léna's hair and she loved it.
Friday afternoon:  Goodbye to one of the greatest teachers ever, Cathy.
And Thursday afternoon:  Goodbye to Elena, a little friend of Léna's at Cathy's daycare.
This woman has been taking care of my girls since April of 2007.  I have written her a check once a month for the past 63 months.  She's a fixture in our lives.  It was pretty odd to hand over my key to the gate.

She got every letter into this puzzle.  I was kind of surprised.  I just silently watched her.

USA or BUST.  This is the longest time in my life I've not been home.  A lot has happened this year, sicknesses, deaths, births.  I'm ready to go HOME.
