Here's an photo of Heather this summer. Quite a contrast to how things look at the moment up there in Santaland. Of course I have no photos of Jacob because who can catch an 11 year old baseball fanatic boy long enough to take his photo?
Meanwhile, my mother enters Day 7 of No electricity in southern New Hampshire where she resides chez ma sister and brother-in-law. Day 7. Now that is a long time in cold conditions. The ice storm that hit last week on Thursday night is one of the longest power outages in modern history.
They have a generator, and a wood stove in their living room, so they certainly have it better than most. Their phone line is connected to their cable, but between on again off again cell phones and my brother-in-laws work phone line that is still going, they certainly are able to get by. 2 of their daughters have just arrived home for the holidays so things are getting festive despite the lack of juice.
Still, I do think of the eldery living alone, those people with young children, or a newborn baby, and wonder how they are managing.
Makes the constant rain we have had here lately in Nice seem not so awful!
Here are some shots from Vermont and New Hampshire after the ice storm hit last week:

And my personal favorite, this photo of some people who don't mind the situation one bit:

Who took all those icy pictures? Very dramatic. No wonder the power was off for 7 days, and still counting for some. Glad to hear in an e-mail from Dan yesterday that their household is in the light again.
Yes, it's Heather's birthday today. She has no idea, but her brothers are very excited. It's going to be a long day in the car, though. Going to Maine for "Christmas" and a birthday cake I made.
That cemetery picture is stunning! Not so stunning to those living without electricity, I'm sure...
A close friend of mine arrived home (Nashua NH)after an emergency c-section and a 4-day hospital stay. Brand new (beautiful!) baby girl in tow, their arrival home led to the discovery of no electricity! She and her husband packed that baby up and drove to her parents' house in Western Massachusetts, where they have been residing every since. All that baby stuff sitting cold and unused back in Nashua. Not quite on par with all the "Bringing Home Baby" (TLC) episodes they watched :-)
I am so thankful the Rothmans have a generator and a wood stove.
Happy Birthday to Heather!
We have power again after 7 days. On day 6, we got it back but only for two hours. It took another 24 hours to get it back again. Let's hope this time it is for good.
Oh, I loved the cemetery picture!! Mom did say it was very beautiful...well, come to think of it, she said that on day #1. I'm so glad they are back on the grid, as of Friday noon, after a terrible tease of having it come on Thurs. for two hours, then snatched away again til today. Hurrah!!!! Happy birthday to both Heather and Jacob!!!
