Boys, Boots, Babies
Yesterday we had Craig and Doug over for lunch:
There was a lot of playing (Léna decided to undress herself as is her modus operandi lately).
Snacks to share:

And real snacks - check out that cheesecake I made!
We enjoyed champagne as a late celebration of Craig's 50th birthday in January....Doug took him on a one-month trip where each destination was a surprise. They went, among other places, to Bermuda, Belize, NYC, Florida, and Vermont!
The girls enjoyed their company!

Earlier last wk we got a nice package in the mail from Papy & Manou:
Hidden inside a toybox leftover from Christmas, was snowboots and other warm clothes for our trip to Vermont soon:
They wore the boots nonstop for the rest of the day, even after their baths:

I have since hid them until they go into the suitcases!
Yesterday, after Craig and Doug left, we took the girls for a short walk (Estelle on her bike) and Léna fell asleep. We brought her in, took off her coat and laid her on the couch. Estelle was captivated by Léna fast asleep on the couch.
Even though she's big, Léna is in many ways still a baby, as Estelle reminded us!

The Terrible Twos
Yesterday I was folding some clothes in the other room for 10 mins, and when I came around the corner, this is what I found:
At 21 months, this child is really starting to take on a life of her own:
Last night she somehow got a hold of a Sharpie. After much screaming (me), I spent 3 hours using various solutions I had read about on the internet to try and save my very-much-not-cheap living room rug and couch upholstery. It was an unpleasant evening. But Evil Knievil cared not, there was ground to cover. Naked.
Meanwhile, Estelle remains not only in good health (despite everyone around her being sick) but also a very patient and helpful big sister.
Today when they came home after school they set up a little cozy reading station (notice the lack of slipcover on my couch - it had been drying since last night's post-triage treatment).

Notice the smile on one and the look of almost-2-yr-old defiance on the other.

Vermont is on a weather warning, but also a hide-your-Sharpies warning.
Below: quiet time (sort of) with books and a CD that has a mix of English and French children's nursery rhymes. I translate the French one at one point.

Live, Eat, Play
Baking with syrup and cinnamon and experiencing lots of art is my recipe for a great wkend.
After spending all last wkend getting ready to host our Galette party, this weekend we did nothing but fun: Making a cake Saturday afternoon with Estelle during Léna's nap....
Mashing up bananas.....
Estelle learned how to say " Lick the spoon"

The finished product: "Dr. Bird Cake" - my uncle Lou gave me this recipe for my wedding. (where I collected recipes) and it is alarmingly easy, so good, full of calories.
Today Estelle decided to pretend she was a Jack in the Box:

And then, she became an artist with one of her gifts from Santa:
Thanks Aunt Carole in VT for knitting Estelle this beret:

Last night at theatre: Labiche vaudeville play w/very famous French actors (Philippe Torreton and Dominique Pinon from the film Amelie Poulain), Friday standup comedy by an English lady I know, former BBC writer. We went to the pool, library, park, made pancakes, had raclette, I even slept late due to Léna sleeping late - 7:45!.
Here's a few slow-action videos for those with nothing better to watch on YouTube:

"Pilou", Part 2
Estelle is curious, mesmerized, maybe on the verge of being a little spooked, to hear her grandfather's voice booming out of the speakers. If he is in the sky, she said, then how come he is singing with Grammie, because Grammie is not in the sky, she is with Lisa and Dan.
This video will bore anyone not in my immediate family, but there are a few interruptions by Léna on the piano which are like comic relief in what is, for me, a surreal moment.
The clear, crisp notes of my mother's singing is a delight and dad's voice is priceless.
As he says on the recording "Howdaya like THAT?"
