Saturday was May Day, and we went to the festival for an hour in the morning. Things were just getting rolling. There were many things cultural relating to Nice and Nissart (language of Nice), but also fun things for kids:

Try not to look at the state of Estelle's socks after a few runs around this thingy:

Below was a stage for performances. In the background you can just see the colored ribbons of the tall Maypole.

This group was playing Gourdes. Like real gourdes, from a garden. Wacky. They sounded like kazoos. Some of the gourdes were turned into little hand drums, like the lady on the far left.

It was a sunny morning. We had got up very early to see Thomas' cousin Emilie off on the ferry to Corsica. She and her BF had driven from Calvinet the night before.

Here's a little video of one the music acts who was warming up. Also a bit of tourism narration from me for the big park we were in. Love that trumpet player.

Loved the video of the May Day celebration. When I see Thomas helping Lena to stand and "walk", I remember him doing that same thing with Estelle at that age!
I hope the little stroller in front of Thomas and Lena is a toy doll stroller because it looks like she would crush it and he would injur his back trying to bend over an push it!
Your festival makes me look forward to summer fairs. Dirty socks are a small price to pay for the fun Estelle is obviously having. Nice to see you all having a nice family time after the challenging winter/spring you've all had.
When you said that the fair was about to get rolling, I thought there was going to be another vomiting child to kabash the whole event for you, so was so glad that your kids got to enjoy it, and everyone was healthy and happy. Seems like there is always something to celebrate in Nice!!!
